Leane Genstler, MA, MBA is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She is a graduate of John F Kennedy University’s Holistic Counseling Psychology Program where she received her Masters in Counseling Psychology. Leane is also a member of John F. Kennedy’s adjunct faculty and teaches classes in Therapeutic Communication, Neurobiology of Trauma, Attachment and Developmental Trauma, Ethics and the Law, Community Mental Health, Couples Therapy and Art Based Interventions for Trauma. Her undergraduate studies were completed at the University of Minnesota where she received a BS in Business. She also attended Golden Gate University in San Francisco where she completed her MBA.
Leane completed her practicum training at Catholic Charities in Seaside, CA and her internship at the YWCA of Monterey County where she worked with a wide variety of client populations and specialized in domestic violence and trauma focused therapy and counseling. Previously, she was a Primary Therapist at Castlewood’s Monarch Cove; a Residential Treatment Center specializing in treating eating disorders and trauma.
Leane has been trained in a wide variety of therapeutic modalities and is especially drawn to using expressive arts and art therapy to help clients externalize their internal experience. She is trained in process or experiential therapy, body oriented and mindfulness techniques and also uses CBT, DBT and psychodynamic therapy when working with clients.
Leane has completed her certification and training in AF-EMDR therapy and is currently working on Brainspotting certification. She is interested in furthering her studies in trauma informed art therapy and trauma informed care. Her academic interests include: neuroplasticity, interpersonal neurobiology, healing attachment related trauma, consciousness studies and the connection between spirituality and healing. Leane is an active member of several professional organizations including: CAMFT, MC-CAMFT, IAEDP, and Veriditas.
Leane loves to create and facilitate therapeutic support groups and is a certified SoulCollage facilitator. She also facilitates group labyrinth walks as a means of psycho-spiritual healing.
She lives on the Monterey peninsula and in her free time enjoys hiking, spending time in nature, exploring coastal beaches, nature photography and antique hunting.
